Course Goals: This course will provide an operations level of information and skills as it pertains to vehicle rescue incidents. Upon completion of the course, the student will be eligible to complete the PA Joint Rescue Program Basic Vehicle Rescue Examination. Additionally, this course will prepare the student to challenge the IFSAC/ProBoard national certification as a Vehicle Rescue Technician Level 1 in accordance with NFPA 1006.
Description of Course: Topics will include incident management; tools/equipment; vehicle anatomy/design; hazard control; patient access, care, and packaging; disentanglement; extrication and termination. This 20-hour course is split between 8 hours of classroom lecture and 12 hours of hands-on evolutions. The final session is an additional 4 hours set aside for the PA Joint Rescue Program Basic Vehicle Rescue Examination.
Prerequisites: Vehicle Rescue Awareness – NFPA 1670 (NVRA), Hazardous Materials Awareness (DHMA) OR higher level of HazMat training or Certification AND students must be 16 years of age by the first day of class.
Textbook: Jones & Bartlett, Vehicle Extrication – Level I & II: Principles and Practice, 1st Edition (Students are required to have a textbook, which is the same textbook provided for the NVRA class.)

Student Equipment/Supply Needs: Pen/pencil and notebook; Full structural protective clothing, including safety glasses. Agencies sending students to this program may be asked to provide rescue equipment to conduct the practical exercises.
