Course Goal: Seven tasks have been identified as part of a process for analyzing the hazardous material problem.
Description of Course: This course focuses on the first four tasks in this process:
- Detecting the presence of hazardous materials.
- Initiating command and control activities
- Surveying the hazardous material incident
- Collecting and interpreting hazard and response information
- The tasks not addressed in this course are discussed in other courses
This course describes how each step is performed and then asks the participants to apply he concepts presented to a particular activity so that the participants can evaluate their mastery of the concept

Student Equipment/Supply Needs: Full structural protective clothing, S.C.B.A., Notebook suitable for field use.
Special Conditions: All provisions of the State Fire Academy Live Burn Policy in effect on the date of the class must be complied with fully. Minimum age for students in this class is fourteen years as of the first day of class. All students must successfully participate as a member of an interior attack team by attacking an interior fire as a condition of receiving a State Fire Academy certificate for this course.
